This book is the collection of articles written for the 2007 Paris meeting "Controversies and Updates in Vascular Surgery".This year, along with reports and discussions on evidences provided by authors of major recent scientific papers, we will also devote our attention to describing technical details that may impact the results of our vascular and endovascular procedures.Given the success of the sessions on vein issues the two previous years, a larger space has been devoted to this rapidly evolving aspect of our specialty. Finally, many Vascular Surgeons manage angio-access for renal failure and we felt it was time to ask specialists in this field to share with us their experience in this topic. The Editors are indebted to all those who contributed to this book and spent their valuable time and efforts writing excellent chapters, and providing them in due time for the editing process.INDICE30 day results from the SPACE trial of stent-protected angioplasty versus carotid endarterectomy in symptomatic patients: a randomised non-inferiority trialCAS: it's all in the approachIs any stent suitable for any lesion?Critical evaluation of carotid filters: which is the best one, if any?Carotid artery stenting: do vascular surgeons match interventionalists?Brain imaging prior to carotid surgery: is it absolutely necessary?Acute occlusion of the internal carotid artery: is surgical reconstruction in the acute stroke patient a valid concept? In carotid surgery, can minor imperfections end up by causing major disasters? When and how to catheterize a hypogastric artery in claudicants?Percutaneous repair of aortic aneurysms: a prospective evaluation of suture-mediated closure devices. How can pressure inside the aneurismal sac be measured and what can we expect from these measurements?
